Psalm 4

Psalm 4 opens with the psalmist calling out to God in a time of need. Then he turns to his adversaries and reminds them that God always comes to the help of his people. In the last stanza he asks the Lord for the joy and affection that allow him to lie down in peace under the protection of God.

Answer me now when I call, O God
Come to my distress;
You always drawn near in times of trouble
You’re always ready to bless.

You enemies of God would turn his glory to shame
How long will you love that delusion?
Remember that the Lord will hear our prayers
And leave you all in confusion.

Tremble with fear and stop your sinning
Think it over there on your bed;
Offer to God what He has prescribed
Put your trust in all that He’s said.

May the light of your face shine on us, Oh Lord
Fill my heart with joy and affection;
In peace I lie down, for You are the One
Who alone provides protection.
