Psalm 5

In Psalm 5 the suppliant calls upon God to hear his morning prayers.  He acknowledges God as the one before whom no sinner can stand; their violence and deceit has driven them out of God’s presence. God is asked to protect those who love him from any harm that could come their way
Give ear to my words, O Lord
Listen to my cry;
At daybreak I bring my requests to you
I’m waiting for your reply.

I know that you take no pleasure in evil
No sinner can be your guest;
The proud are not able to stand in your presence
Violence and deceit you detest.

As for me, I come joyfully into your house
And bow in worship there;
My enemies lie, their throats open graves
Drive them away, is my prayer.

Let all who take refuge in you rejoice
And continually sing for joy;
Protect those who love you, those who obey
Let nothing their gladness destroy
